A rare sight, and one unique to the Hawaiian islands
- this is a Silversword (Argyroxiphium sandwicenses), known in
the Hawaiian as `Ahinahina. This one even has a wire corral around it
to try and protect it from animals or vandalism.
The plant is high on the slopes of Mauna Kea - you can see Mauna Loa rising in the distance
Make no mistake - Mauna Loa is one big puppy.
