More Drawings...

Here are some more recent drawings. Some are just experiments; others are fairly well finished. A lot of the more recent stuff has been done in pastel pencil (Rexel Derwent) or coloured pencil (Berol Karismacolor).

Take a look at Page 1 or Page 3!

Statue - bull's head

Study from Photograph: Statue of a bull's head

I was given a great photograph of the statue of a head of a bull, seen at an archeological site in Turkey. This is a completed study of it; a quick pencil outline (very sketchy) just filled in and shaded with Daler Derwent pastel pencils. Only three basic colours were used.

Imagined Study: On the theme of a horse's head

This was just a bit of random playing. When I started I had no idea where I was going with this - but it came out OK. I tried to keep the whole thing smooth and stylized - the lines flowing and simple.

Life/shadow study: onion

Life/shadow study: Onion

To practise with shadow rendering and some basic use of colour, I did this drawing of an onion. I won't claim the shadows are exactly right but it's an improvement, I think. The shadow is built up from charcoal and soft pencil - it could probably do with softening out a little.

Simplified study - Male figure

This figure is from Eadweard Muybridge's well-known reference 'The Human Figure In Motion'. I tried to capture it in a very simple way - just by drawing the shadowed areas, keeping things minimal and with little detail. It's amazing how little actual information needs to be in the picture before it's recognisable. I was going to 'finish' it, but decided to stop there and leave it as it was.
