Quick Tips

*All mustard mentioned here is refered to as Colman's Dry English Mustard unless otherwise specified.

  • Use it around the house! (these actually work)
    • Smelly dishes? Next time, add a heaping tablespoon of Colman's with the soap to remove odors like fish and onions.
    • Make a paste with Colman's and spread on the back of a loose tile to secure it to the wall. Acts like plaster!
    • Use as fertilizer for better colored daffodils.
    • Sprinkle dry mustard inside shoes to prevent cold feet and frostbite.
    • Mustard and honey at bedtime for coughs, a pinch of mustard in a glass of water for hiccups.
    • Colman's poultry mustard fed to chickens stimulate egg production.
    • To mend leaky car radiators temporarily, pour in contents of 2 oz. tin of mustard while car is running.
    • Sprinkle over plants to rid them of insect pests.
    • Two tsp. in a pint of water poured on roots stops worms.
    • Dry Colman's rubbed into dog's coat helps stop distemper. Cover dog with blanket.
    • Smear headlights with a dry colman's mixed with some water to drive in fog-- fog lights! (yes, it works)
    • Stuffy nose? Make a paste, spread it generously over a cracker, and take a few bites. This clears it up in seconds!
    • Have trouble with ants? Sprinkle Colman's mustard over their trail and they wont cross it. Too hot for them. (per Peggy Freeman)
  • Use around your computer!
    • Colman's Mustard makes great background for webpages.
    • The nice mellow-yellow color relieves eye strain.
    • Makes a great looking paper weight!
  • And of course, for FOOD!
    • When breading chicken or chops, add a TB of Colman's to the breading mixture.
    • Hands smell like onions or garlic? Rub some Colman's on your hand and rinse with warm water to remove the odor.
    • Before cooking live clams or mussels, put them in a bucket of water with a few teaspoonsful of dry Colman's to make them spit out the grit and sand.
    • Tuna fish Salad without a tbs. full of Colman's Mustard tastes awful. (Pete Daggett)
    • Some mayo mixed with a tablespoon of Colman's makes hotdogs & sandwiches taste Mmmm! (Lileni)
    • I always put a teaspoon of Colman's in my vegie stir fries.
    • When mixing with water, use cold water, mix slowly, and let stand for ten min. This improves the mustard's "kick".
    • I rub a little mustard on fish fillets before I cook them. This makes the fish taste fresher and less fishy. (Leigh Cody)
    • Try mixing Colman's Mustard with Tabasco sauce or shoyu for something different and interesting.(jacksing@pacbell.net)

    • "My Reflexologist makes a paste and rubs it on the skin of the sole of my foot and around my ear lobes. Relaxing and very effective for circulation and to reduce stress!" ( Lennart Sandstrom)
    • "Use a thin mixture of Colman's and water to catch worms for fishing. You have to find a worm hole, (distinguished by little droplets of earth at he top of the hole) and pour mixture in. The worms wiggle out and then you need to rinse them off before putting them in bait box." ( Anonymous)
